I have demonstrated Parallels Desktop on the Mac that I use to run Windows 7 alongside OS X. A new version of Parallels Desktop, version 5, was released yesterday and among many new features offers better Snow Leopard and Windows 7 support. One of the new features of Parallels Desktop for Mac v.5 is the Crystal mode, which allows the Windows 7 environment to be “hidden” while running. In the video I demonstrate how this works, and show the ability to run Windows programs like WindowsSource: jkOnTheRun RSS Feed

I’ve been playing a little with the latest Moblin release this afternoon and I’m actually thinking of trying to run it full-time on a netbook. There’s a few holes yet, but it does offers me much of what I’m looking for in a smartbook — a lightweight operating system and good browsing experience. The Bluetooth might be easily fixable in my netbook BIOS, but no sound onSource: jkOnTheRun RSS Feed

At Union Square Ventures, we refer to this as data exhaust, or sometimes called digital exhaust, because it is the excess valuable information that is left in the wake of using a service. The best services capture this information in an elegant and effortless way, without any barriers orSource: Marketing.fm RSS Feed

It’s the ’60s, and you don’t have access to a semiconductor fab to make piles of cheap memory for you, so how could you store data on your computer?

Well, MAKE subscriber Steve points us to one possible solution, courtesy of vintagecalcuators.com: delay line memories. Rather than having a bunch of individual units that store a bit each, these memory devices work by storing data in sound (compression) waves. The device consists of a long length of wire, with an actuator on one end toSource: MAKE: Blog RSS Feed
